The Nigerian government has said it will soon commence demolition

of buildings without approvals across the country.

According to the state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Toyin Ayinde, the state government would not spare any illegal structure in its environment.

Ayinde warned prospective building owners, developers and site engineers to ensure they obtain planning approval before commencing any construction work in the state.

The commissioner, who lamented increasing rate of buildings without proper planning and approval, added that such buildings often collapse because the developers failed to follow due process before embarking construction work.

He added that it was mandatory for owners of any land proposed for development of a structure to apply and obtain layout approval, especially when the land is in excess of one hectare, before the commencement of structures on such land.
